Uplighting Setup Time
It takes about 1-2 minutes of setup time per uplight. You'll first remove the lights from the packaging, attach the power cable (if wired), and locate around the room. Setting your uplight's color takes just a few seconds. Finally, you'll want to adjust the lights position along the wall for the most uniform look.
Uplighting Comparison
We offer several types of uplights depending on your needs. All our options are LED and can create almost any color.
| Most economical uplight | Black Wired Uplight |
| RGB Uplight in a white case | White Wired Uplight |
| RGB battery-powered uplight | Wireless Uplight |
| RGBA ultra battery-powered uplight | Ultra Wireless Uplight |
Uplight Quantity Recommendations
The right quantity depends on your venue size and the atmosphere you're going for. As a starting point, divide your wall length by your desired spacing:
- 5 feet apart — wall wash, a continuous flood of color
- 6–8 feet apart — maximum impact, bright and bold
- 10–14 feet apart — balanced coverage with full wall color
- 20 feet apart — accent lighting, colorful but subtle
Most events use between 10 and 30 uplights. For detailed recommendations by room size, see our uplighting quantity guide.
Uplight Rental Costs
Wired uplights start at $18–$19 per light when renting 10 or more. For a small to medium event, budget around $200. Wireless uplights and larger events typically run $500–$800. One cost-saving approach: mix wireless lights in open areas where cords are impractical with wired lights along walls where outlets are accessible — both produce identical color and light quality.
Best Uplighting Colors
Bright, saturated colors tend to show the most impact — reds, golds, ambers, greens, blues, and purples all work well. Avoid dark shades like navy, maroon, or gray, which absorb rather than reflect light. Warm white and gold are timeless choices that work in almost any venue. Browse our gallery for inspiration or use our color match tool to find your exact shade.
When to rent uplighting
We recommend reserving 3–6 months before your event, especially during peak wedding season. Current availability is always shown in real time on each product page.
Last Minute Uplight Rental
We accommodate most last-minute requests within 12 hours at no extra cost. We approve over 95% of requests, though each one is manually reviewed to confirm we can meet your quantity and location requirements before confirming.
Frequently asked questions about renting uplighting
Uplighting refers to lights placed at floor level that project color upward onto walls, columns, or architectural features. At events, they're used to wash a room in your event color, highlight focal points like a head table or altar, and create a professional ambiance that transforms an ordinary venue into something memorable.
A general rule is one uplight per 8–10 linear feet of wall you want to cover. For a full room wash, plan for one light every 6–8 feet around the perimeter. A 60x40ft ballroom typically needs 16–20 uplights for complete coverage. Our uplighting guide has detailed recommendations by room size.
Wired uplights plug into a standard wall outlet and are ideal when outlets are accessible along the walls of your venue. Wireless uplights run on a built-in rechargeable battery — no cords, no outlet access needed — making them easier to position anywhere in a space. Both produce the same quality of light and color range.
Each uplight has an on-board digital display with simple button controls. You enter a color code — we provide a full color reference on our color configuration page — and the light locks to that color instantly. No experience required, and the whole process takes under a minute per light. If you'd prefer, we're happy to set the uplight color for a nominal fee. Select this option at checkout for your rental.
Our outdoor wireless uplights are rated for outdoor use, making them the ideal choice for tent events, outdoor ceremonies, and covered patios — no cords or outlet access needed. Most of our uplights are designed for indoor use only. If your event is outdoors or in a tent, filter to our outdoor wireless uplight.
